Huddersfield Giants star Ricky Leutele confirms exit from Super League club in shock move

Huddersfield Giants star Ricky Leutele has been in the news the past few weeks and months regarding his future.

After turning into a cult hero at the John Smith’s Stadium following his move from the Toronto Wolfpack, Leutele had an incredible start to the 2022 Super League season only to be cut back by injury earlier in the year.

With head coach Ian Watson declaring his commitment to giving Leutele a new deal, those talks seemed to drag on with the Huddersfield boss then saying that it was unlikely the former Melbourne Storm man would re-sign.

However, live on Sky Sports, pundit Jenna Brooks revealed that the West Yorkshire club still want to keep him.

“Reports suggest he will be moving on, but that’s not necessarily the way forward,” Brooks said.

“They say they want to keep him but that the decision is up to him.”

Despite that, Leutele himself confirmed he would be leaving at the end of the season, live on Sky Sports in a post-match interview.

Watson had previously called for the club to move on after a long time of waiting.

“We’ve got to a point now where we move on, Ricky hasn’t give us any indication,” Watson said.

“He hasn’t told us what he’s doing. We are looking at other targets.

“We’ve spoken to his agent a couple of times and he keeps telling us he’s going to go somewhere else. That’s his prerogative but at this moment in time, Ricky still hasn’t told us.

“We can’t just keep waiting. We want to make sure we’re a top club.

“We want to make sure we are a top club. Ricky has kept his cards close to his chest, but when he wants to tell us he will come to us.”

Leutele has been linked with a move to the Leigh Centurions with owner Derek Beaumont determined to bankroll not only a promotion push but also a stay in Super League once they get there.

The likes of Edwin Ipape, Blake Ferguson and Lachlan Lam have already signed on the dotted line for 2023, but Leigh are certainly plotting more with a mooted move for Wigan Warriors’ Bevan French continuing to be mooted.
