Huddersfield Giants star reveals he was left “frustrated” and “stressed” at the end of last season as he gives injury update

Huddersfield Giants had to do without one of their star players as the season drew to a close in 2022.

After a superb campaign as they finished third and got to a Challenge Cup Final, the Giants lost in the opening round of the play-offs as their season ended prematurely.

Perhaps it would have been different had star player Jermaine McGillvary had been fit.

However, his season was ended in defeat to St Helens, but speaking to the Giants twitter page he had an update on his injury:

“They’re pretty good, it’s the off-season so I’m taking things steady. I’m not fully back with the boys but I will be in there soon.

“I’m taking it steady and not skipping any steps.”

He also revealed that he was left stressed out and frustrated at the end of last season: “It has been really stressful, the worry that I had an even more serious injury than I did and then having to watch the boys in that last bit of the season and how we finished the season, it was really frustrating to watch.

“Not good, but I have had some down time in the off season to get mentally right and I’m back training.”

He expects to get back fully fit and effective on account of avoiding major injury up until now:

“I’ve been lucky throughout my career so hopefully I can get back to normal.”
