Huddersfield Giants star provides injury update and makes ‘proud’ statement

Huddersfield Giants signing George King has spoken about his rehab after missing most of the club’s pre-season through injury.

King signed with his hometown club after leaving Hull KR with time remaining on his contract, instead penning a deal with the Giants for the next four years.

The first of those has been majorly disrupted so far after the Ireland captain suffered an ankle injury back in December that ruled him out for all of pre-season.

King has missed the club’s first three Super League games but there is a positive update from the prop forward as it’s been confirmed that he is set to return to the field, a major step in his rehab process.

Speaking on the Huddersfield Giants YouTube channel, King said: “I’m absolutely delighted, it’s been a while and a hell of a long journey but I’m finally getting there.

“I’m really grateful with the medical team, they’ve been able to get me back quicker than I thought. I’m looking forward to getting the boots on now and hopefully keeping them on for good.”

Huddersfield have suffered from plenty of injuries but King explained that those at the Giants have helped massively, whilst also explaining what he has been able to do during his rehab.

He saidL “The lads have been really supportive behind me and collectively it’s been really pleasing. I’ve done a lot of work behind the scenes with the young lads but now that I’m getting my boots on, I can start helping out on the physical side of things now.”

King was one of two major prop signings alongside Tom Burgess but we won’t get to see that duo in action for some time with King still a few weeks away, however, he has declared his intent to do his hometown proud when he finally makes his debut – over a decade on from being in the club’s scholarship and academy.

The former Hull KR man said: “I did my scholarship and academy here at Huddersfield but a new chapter saw me go to pastures new but I’m here now, back again and I really want to do my hometown club proud.

“I can’t wait to make my debut but it’s still a few weeks away where I’ve got to get some running in my legs and get up to speed.”

He also praised the culture and group that Luek Robinson has put together with the ‘togetherness’ hailed, something that will have helped him during that rehab process.

“It’s a really good tight-knit group. One thing I noticed in that first week of pre-season was the  difference that the lads said it had been from the previous pre-season. It felt like there was a little bit more togetherness and it’s really pleasing when you come into an environment like that.”

Next up for Huddersfield is an away trip to face champions Wigan and King admits there’s still plenty of work to do for the winless Giants, identifying their poor second-half performances as something they’re keen to improve.

“There’s still a lot of hard work to do,” he stated.

“We’ve had three games where we’re going in at half time winning and haven’t done the job in the second half but we’re still working hard and trying to find results.”
