Huddersfield Giants squad numbers revealed with position switch for new signing

Huddersfield Giants have revealed their squad numbers for the 2025 season and there is one big position of interest.

With Jake Connor leaving the John Smith’s Stadium and making the move to Headingley, there were questions about who would play full-back for the Giants but it seems that has now been answered.

The number one shirt has been assigned to the club’s latest recruit Jacob Gagai, suggesting a potentially different role for the former South Sydney Rabbitohs man.

Gagai, who signed for the club a week ago, has played at full-back plenty in his career but back when he was still a New South Wales Cup player. All of his exploits in the NRL to date have come on the wing, where it was assumed that the 28-year-old would play with Adam Swift occupying the other wing.

However, Huddersfield appear to have backed Gagai as their starting full-back by handing him the number one shirt, replacing Jake Connor.

Huddersfield have handed out 30 first-team numbers but interestingly have only left shirt 23 open within that. That could be an indication that they’ve left it available for a new signing with Olly Russell’s former number left available.

Last year, St Helens launched their shirt numbers with the number three vacant before then signing Waqa Blake. With Huddersfield Giants still boasting two overseas quota spots, they could have done the same.

That’s not to say further signings won’t happen but they’ll simply take the shirt number 31 and above going forward. As for the players they have signed for 2025, not all men have been assigned ‘starting’  numbers.

Gagai (One), is joined by Liam Sutcliffe (Four), Zac Woolford (Nine) and Tom Burgess (10) among those in the starting 13 whilst George King returns to his hometown and takes the number 16.

Adam Swift will be like a new signing after missing the majority of the 2024 season despite starting in incredible try-scoring form. He will wear number two and form a backline also including Jake Bibby (Three) and Sam Halsall (Five).
