Huddersfield Giants recruit Tom Burgess has teased that there could be more new faces arriving at the John Smith’s Stadium before the start of the 2025 Super League season.
Burgess is one of four new signings made by the Giants heading into the new campaign, with the former South Sydney Rabbitohs prop being joined in West Yorkshire by fellow front-rower George King, who joins from Hull KR and ex-Canberra Raiders hooker Zac Woolford.
Liam Sutcliffe has also made the switch to Huddersfield from Hull FC, with Robinson preparing to take charge of his first ever pre-season as head coach. The Giants have been linked to more recruits, though, with Jacob Gagai being strongly rumoured with a switch to the club.
Gagai was with Burgess at Souths last season, of course, and he will know what to expect from the winger should the club make him their fifth addition of the off-season. Burgess didn’t name names but he admits he has spoken to Robinson about recruitment with the England international letting slip that there could be more than one new signing on the way.
Speaking in an interview posted on Huddersfield Giants’ Youtube, Burgess said when asked if he had spoken to Robinson much: “I’ve just been messaging him, talking about a few things, about training and maybe a few potential signings. Basically just checking in.
“I’m going to try and catch him today and basically just talk about the pre-season ahead of us, what we’ve got instore and plenty of hard work for us to come. I’m looking forward to that and being away for 12 years at one club, you get used to things so it’s exciting for me to come to a new club and see a new way of doing things and putting my spin on it as well.”
On the thought of playing at the John Smith’s Stadium in claret and gold, Burgess added: “I’ve never lost on this field with England, I’ve always been pretty proud to play here with England being my local town and stadium and I remember coming to watch Sam here back in 2007 when he played against New Zealand.
“I always thought it was a great stadium and a great place to play, I’m really looking forward to coming and making it a fortress here. I’m really excited about the new challenge ahead.”
