Huddersfield Giants’ retention spree continues as out-of-contract ace pens new terms

Huddersfield Giants boss Jim Lenihan has added to his 2027 roster after re-signing one of his most important outside backs.

The Giants’ out-of-contract list has decreased from seven to six, after the club confirmed the extension of winger Adam Swift.

Swift has agreed to stay on at the club for another 12 months, as he looks to finally break his bad luck on the injury front.

Joining the Claret and Gold outfit ahead of the 2024 season, the 33-year-old has played just 39 of a possible 87 games, showing how poor his availability has been, all of which are down to injuries.

However, in those 39 games, he has scored 34 tries, so when he is fit, he is a real asset to the club. With stricter training and a focus on strength and conditioning from the new boss Lenihan, there is hope that Swift can work his way through the bad run of injuries and play week-to-week in Super League.

Swift puts pen to paper just days after the announcement that Harry Rushton has also extended his time at the club.

The Giants’ out-of-contract list for 2026 is now as follows: Adam Clune, Jacob Gagai, Kieran Rush, Mathieu Cozza, Taane Milne, Tui Lolohea

Huddersfield Giants tie down star to new deal

Explaining the club’s decision to extend Swift’s contract, Director of Rugby Andy Kelly said: “Even with the injuries he’s had, his strike rate is phenomenal.

“He’s still one of the best wing players in the Betfred Super League. The period of time he’s missing at the moment, and of course with a full pre season, will set Swifty up to be more consistently on the field.

“I believe the investment both the club are putting in him, and the investment he’s putting in to himself, will set him up for a brilliant 2027.”

Swift himself commented on the new deal, saying: “I’m absolutely buzzing to seal another year.

“The last couple of years hasn’t gone well injury-wise at the Giants, but there’s things in place now where I can get on top of the injuries.

“Another 12 months under Jim, he’s a great coach and a fantastic leader, and I’m excited to be back with the boys next year.”

“Scoring tries is what I get paid to do, it’s something I want to do more often than I have the last two years, so I’m excited for 2027 already.”
