Huddersfield Giants have released a statement to confirm the immediate departure of hooker Thomas Deakin.

The Oldham-born hooker has left Huddersfield for personal reasons, the Super League club have announced, with the hooker set to make the move back to his home of Australia. Deakin has had a bit-part role to play at the John Smith’s Stadium since joining the club in September 2023.

In fact, he made just 12 appearances for the Giants, of which only four have come this season, with his last outing coming off the bench against Hull KR in March. He made eight outings last season and helped the club to three wins.

However, he will now return to Australia with his next steps yet to be confirmed.

Huddersfield Giants confirm Thomas Deakin exit

A short Huddersfield Giants statement read: “The Giants can confirm that Thomas Deakin has left the club for personal reasons and will return home to Australia. Tom featured 12 times for the Giants’ First team since joining the club back in September 2023.

“The club would like to place on record its thanks for Tom’s efforts while at the Giants, and wish him the best for the future.”

Before joining the Giants, Deakin had spent the entirety of his career in the New South Wales Cup. The 23-year-old made his debut for North Sydney Bears in 2021 and made 12 appearances over two seasons, with his third year in the competition coming for Sydney Roosters’ reserves.

He made 20 appearances in 2023 and scored two tries before the move to West Yorkshire beckoned.
