Huddersfield Giants release forward pair with one already linked to Super League club

Harvey Livett in action for Huddersfield Giants

Huddersfield Giants have confirmed the exits of Hugo Salabio and Harvey Livett as they continue their preparations for the 2025 Super League season. Both players have left the John Smith’s Stadium by mutual consent, with the club stating the decision was made with both men set to struggle for regular minutes moving forward.

The forwards leave the club just two months out from the start of the season, with Salabio already been linked to a new home. According to Hull Live, Hull FC are keen on the prop and have held talks with his representatives as they look to fill out their middle numbers.

Salabio spent just one season with Huddersfield having joined the club from Wakefield Trinity ahead of the 2024 campaign. He made 11 appearances in claret and gold with his one and only start being his last outing for the club against Warrington Wolves in September.

Livett joined Huddersfield from Salford Red Devils ahead of the 2023 season but has struggled for traction over the last couple of years. He has made 17 appearances in that time and touched down on three occasions.

His release comes despite starting the club’s final three Super League games last time around. Livett isn’t short of Super League experience of course, making 94 appearances in the competition in total, with spells coming at Warrington Wolves and Hull KR before his switch to Salford in 2021.

A statement released on the Huddersfield Giants website, read: “Huddersfield Giants can confirm that Hugo Salabio and Harvey Livett have left the club by mutual consent.

“The decision has been made to allow both players a better chance at gaining regular first grade opportunities elsewhere.

“We would like to also place on record the club’s gratitude for their services during their time at The John Smith’s Stadium and wish them the very best for the future.”
