Huddersfield Giants recruit opens up on Luke Robinson factor and potential debut date

Huddersfield Giants have made a mid-season signing this week, in the shape of 24-year-old Australian forward Tristan Powell.

The deal runs until the end of 2027, and after impressing in the Queensland Cup, the Giants were quick to make the move.

Speaking to club media, the new import is keen to get started in the UK competition and make his mark.

“I haven’t been to England before, this is the first time in the country, and I honestly can’t wait to play for the Giants.”

When asked about the type of player he is, Powell described himself as someone who likes to go the extra mile for his teammates.

“I like to do all the little things that go unnoticed to the naked eye of a fan, so maybe just look a little bit deeper and hopefully I’m doing all the hard stuff.

He also commented on the influence that Giants head coach Luke Robinson has had in the move and how much he believes Powell can be a difference maker.

“Robbo’s [Luke Robinson] been awesome throughout the whole process. He’s putting a lot of confidence in myself and backs my ability.

“He’s just really keen, the same as me, to get me on the park and hopefully let my footy do the talking”

The Giants’ clash with St Helens tomorrow has come too early for Powell to make his Super League debut, however his first game on UK soil could be against Leigh Leopards, the team his childhood best friend plays for.

“I’ll still be getting stuck in to training with the boys to prepare for hopefully a game against Leigh which will be against one of my childhood mates David Armstrong.

“I’m looking forward to the preposition of that happening but just looking forward to getting to training and meeting everyone first.
