Huddersfield Giants quota situation for 2025 with space for marquee recruitment

Huddersfield Giants have had a tricky season, and will be looking to make plenty of changes ahead of 2025.

Last year, the Giants filled their quota spots with the signings of Jack Murchie and Adam Clune.

However, they only have six quota players in the ranks at the moment, as captain Luke Yates departed for Warrington Wolves ahead of schedule, after originally signing a deal from next year.

Currently, clubs can have a maximum of seven ‘non-Federation trained players’ in their squad – and these players are defined as those that didn’t play three seasons of rugby in Europe before they turned 21.

These rules are much more relaxed than previous rules, which were at one point to only allow three foreign players in most English sides.

Huddersfield Giants quota situation ahead of 2025

The Giants already know that Esan Marsters won’t be staying with the club next year, as he has signed a three-year deal with Salford Red Devils from 2025.

Kevin Naiqama, similarly, could be heading elsewhere, with his contract up at the end of the season.

He has been linked with St Helens, but they’ve now signed another quota player and may not have any space free to make the signing, depending on key contract decisions.

However, Sebastine Ikahihifo should still be around for at least another year, as he’s contracted through 2025 – although talk of a move away has been bubbling, with Bradford Bulls in the Championship reportedly interested in acquiring his services.

Staying on for 2026 is Tui Lolohea, entering his fourth season with the Giants since a move from Salford Red Devils.

Joining him will likely be both of their new quota signings for 2024 – Jack Murchie and Adam Clune.

This leaves three spots free for Huddersfield to make some marquee signings for 2025.
