Huddersfield Giants man set to join Super League rivals on loan

Huddersfield Giants have already allowed Sam Hewitt and Louis Senior to join Wakefield Trinity on loan.

Now Nathan Mason is set for a loan move to a Super League club.

Before Huddersfield’s clash with Salford Red Devils, Ian Watson said the club were looking to find him a loan move and after the game speaking on BBC Radio Leeds Watson confirmed that a Super League club wants to take him.

“There’s one club in Super League that want to take him, which is where we want him to play.

“There were a couple of Championship clubs that put their hand up at the top end, but we didn’t want him to go to Championship, we wanted him to go to Super League so that when he does have to come back and play for us he’s ready.

“The good thing is that we’ve got quite a few middles available or potentially close to coming back so we can afford maybe to lose one.

“Sam Hewitt has done a few weeks at Wakefield so if we do need somebody then we can pull him back, and Sam’s been with us for the last two or three years anyway so he knows our system.

“It’s just important to get Nathan Mason a little bit of a run out because let’s say a Jack Ashworth or a Seb, something happens, then we’ll need him to come in and replace.”

Speaking on Sam Hewitt’s loam, Watson said: “At the moment if we can keep him playing and we don’t need him then we’ll keep him at Wakefield for as long as we can. It’s part of his development.

“Sam is with us for a few years, Innes Senior is with us for a few years, but it’s about making them better players. If they’re just sat here training against us then it’s not actually improving them much in terms of the game experience and things like that.”
