Huddersfield Giants man issues injury update ahead of pre-season friendly

Huddersfield Giants Sam Halsall

Sam Halsall has returned to full training after overcoming the injury that saw him the final month of Huddersfield Giants’ 2024 season. The outside back scored nine tries in 19 appearances for the Giants last time around, but his campaign came to a premature end in August.

The former Wigan Warriors man was forced to go under the knife to resolve a wrist issue and he has been working his way back to full fitness ever since. After a lengthy recovery period, though, Halsall is now able to train fully with Luke Robinson’s Giants and he should be ready to start the new season next month.

“I’m really relieved to be fair,” Halsall told the Huddersfield Giants YouTube channel after training with his teammates in the Malaga sunshine this week. “It was a pretty long injury for such a small bone.

“This week is my first full week back in full training. I’m loving it and I’m looking forward to the games coming up in a few weeks.”

The Giants have now returned to West Yorkshire and it won’t be long until they’re in action for the first time this year with Bradford Bulls travelling to the John Smith’s Stadium for a friendly on Saturday, January 18. Huddersfield will then make the short journey to face Featherstone Rovers before they get their Challenge Cup campaign underway.

Halsall will hope to be involved in at least one of those games and with competition for places in the Giants’ backline being fierce, he’ll be determined to make an impression.

“Everyone has got a point to prove and everyone has got a shirt to play for,” he said. “It’s going to be lads competing and working hard and that’s all pre-season games are about, putting your best foot forward and giving the coaches headaches for the season coming.”

On Huddersfield’s warm weather training camp, Halsall added: “I think it’s been needed. We had a really good six weeks leading up into Christmas and built some foundations and it’s filtered through into this week.

“They’ve put everything in place and everything has run smooth. That just makes it easier for us and when everything is in place it’s so much easier and free flowing, it’s been really good.”
