Huddersfield Giants have made history after announcing the appointment of 24-year-old Rebecca Wood to the clubs board of directors.
The locally-based businesswoman is well known to Giants supporters and is a regular presence at all games both within corporate circles and in the stands.
Huddersfield Giants Chairman, Keith Hellawell acknowledged the historic nature of the appointment: “Firstly I should formally and publicly welcome Rebecca.”
“We have acknowledged for some time internally that ideally the board needed some diversification in particular in terms of age and gender and Rebecca is a welcome addition. No one can doubt her passion for the club and if our club is to succeed longer term we need younger people, fresher perspectives and a recognition of the society that we now live in.
“Rebecca’s background is of course steeped in the club and we are pretty sure that she will be the youngest ever Huddersfield Rugby League club director (certainly in Super League times) and maybe in the entire game. I am sure that Rebecca will challenge our thinking and look forward to working with her as we all seek to drive the club forward on and off the field.”
Rebecca Wood said: “I have been watching and following the Huddersfield Giants my whole life so to be invited to join the Board is a real honour. I am so excited to be involved, and look forward to sharing my ideas and adding a new perspective. I care tremendously about the Club and am incredibly enthusiastic about the role. I hope that I can make a difference and add value”
