Jack Cogger will miss Huddersfield Giants’ next three matches following this evening’s independent Operational Rules Tribunal.
The Giants’ half-back was appealing against a two-match suspension for use of the knees during last weekend’s Betfred Super League match at Warrington. Cogger challenged the grading, C, but the tribunal adjudged this challenge to be frivolous in light of what they regarded to be ‘a highly reckless act’ and added an extra match on to the initial suspension. He was also fined £500.
Halifax Panthers’ Jacob Fairbank, who was dismissed for punching during his side’s recent Betfred Championship clash with Bradford Bulls at Odsal, has been handed a five match suspension.
Fairbank pleaded guilty but challenged the Grade E charge (Strikes – punching – sustained, repeated or violent – makes contact with the head of an opponent). The tribunal found the Match Review Panel grading to be correct and also issued a £250 fine.
Two London Broncos players, Tommy Porter and Euan Parke, are banned for three games for a two-player dangerous throw during the recent Reserves match with Warrington Wolves. Both pleaded guilty but challenged the Grade D referrals, which were found to be correct.
Earlier today the following players accepted Match Review Panel charges.
James Bell, St Helens – Dangerous contact (Grade B) – 2 matches
Chris Hill, Huddersfield Giants – Dangerous contact (Grade B) – 1 match
Benjamin Julien, Catalans Dragons – High tackle (Grade A) – 0 matches
Tui Lolohea, Huddersfield Giants – Tripping (Grade B) – 1 match
Josh Reynolds, Hull FC – Other contrary behaviour (Grade B) – 1 match
