Huddersfield Giants head coach Luke Robinson has given injury updates on four key men as they build up to the start of Super League.
The Giants took on York Knights on Saturday afternoon in their first outing of pre-season and picked up a 22-4 win over the newly promoted outfit. Huddersfield named a strong side for the clash, which acted as Matty English’s testimonial and Robinson had the luxury of being able to manage minutes as the contest wore on.
However, the game didn’t come without its injury concerns with Sam Hewitt and Liam Sutcliffe leaving the field. Robinson has allayed any fears there, but he has also given updates on why Olly Russell, Harry Rushton, Taane Milne and Joe Greenwood were not involved against the Knights at the Accu Stadium.
Huddersfield Giants injury latest
“The only one that went off a little bit was Sutty, he got a bang to the head but he passed his HIA so that’s great news,” Robinson said when asked about Huddersfield’s injuries. “Sam Hewitt came off because he just felt his groin tighten up a little bit.
“The other changes were Tui, Cluney and Niall. One was to give George an opportunity to play and the other two , we didn’t want to leave them out there forever.
“Out of the senior lads, you’ve got Olly Russell and Harry Rushton and they should be back in the next two weeks. I think they’re pretty much available for the first Super League game but whether they can get a game before that, I’m not sure.
“Taane Milne took a bang pretty much after Christmas to his knee. He trained yesterday fully so he was good to go but he just hasn’t had any training under his belt. It was a little bit of a risk throwing him out there without any training.
“The other one is Joe Greenwood who took a head knock in Tenerife. He’s over that but because he hasn’t been training, it was a little bit of a risk throwing him out there without any training under his belt. He needs to get training really before we get him out into a full game.”
