Luke Robinson admits players would have to leave Huddersfield Giants if the club were to bring any more new players to the club any time soon.
The Giants have made five new signings heading into the 2026 season and that figure includes the permanent addition of Niall Evalds, who spent last season at the club on loan from Hull KR. Olly Russell also had time with the Giants last year and his permanent return to the club was sealed in November.
Elsewhere, Huddersfield have moved to strengthen their pack with the signings of Chris Patolo from Manly Sea Eagles, Asher O’Donnell from Brisbane Tigers and Mathieu Cozza from Wakefield Trinity.
Asked if there was room for any more recruits, though, Robinson said: “It would be a little bit of a juggling act if that was the case.
“I’d love to have the ability to do that but where we are at this moment in time, there might need to be a bit of juggling for that to happen.”
Assessing his squad as Huddersfield Giants approach the new season, Robinson added: “We haven’t made that many signings but I feel like I’ve got loads. The likes of Niall Evalds played for 30 minutes and that was pretty much him done for the year.
“Liam Sutcliffe pretty much did his foot straight away and was in and out. There’s been a lot of players this year that I feel like are new players to me. It feels like we’ve made a lot but in reality we haven’t.
“That’s salary cap sport, you can’t make too many changes straight away. I inherited what I had and a lot of times there was a lot of lads on two or three year contracts. It isn’t just a straight swap. The lads that we’ve brought in this year have really settled and done well. Olly Russell is another one, you kind of forget that he wasn’t our player.”
It seems the new forward signings have caught the eye over pre-season, though, with Robinson singling out all three for praise when asked who has impressed the most over the winter period.
“There’s been a fair few this year,” he added. “I’ll give a shout out to the new players really, they’ve settled in really well.
“Cozza gives us a little bit of a different dimension replacing Leroy Cudjoe, he’s someone that has really nice touches with ball in hand. Chris Patolo moves extremely well for a big man which I think is probably one thing we struggled with in the middle last year, having that leg speed, he gives us that.
“Asher O’Donnell is 100mph in everything he does, he’s been really good. He’s still only in the early stages of his career, he’s going to learn and get better and there’s still some nuances that he needs to pick up and get better on.
“What I do love about him is he wants to learn. He’s always there with his pad and pen asking me what he can do better and he goes 100 mph in everything he does, whether I say it’s touch or tackle, it’s full on tackle every time.”
Robinson has named his Huddersfield Giants squad for this weekend’s friendly clash with Hull FC: Taane Milne, Tom Burgess, Fenton Rogers, Matty English, George King, Joe Greenwood, Kieran Rush, Liam Sutcliffe, Mathieu Cozza, George Flanagan, Jack Billington, Connor Carr, Jacob Algar, Archie Sykes, Marshall Land, Lewis Jagger, Monty Lumb, Zach Brown, Tom Hardy, Alex Chippendale, Roman Sharma, Woody Potter.
