Huddersfield Giants down to bare bones as “unprecedented” squad update given with 16 players unavailable

Huddersfield Giants have released a full squad update that includes 16 players unavailable for selection this weekend.

The Giants welcome Hull KR to the Accu Stadium for the second time in a week, after the pair battled it out in the Super League on Sunday.

Rovers were 32-6 winners, but this week they will play in the Challenge Cup, with the winner progressing to the quarter-finals, which will be held in April.

Huddersfield’s rotten luck has his “unprecedented” levels, and after already having a double-figure injury list, the club have confirmed three more players picked up knocks at the weekend.

George Flanagan Jr, Matty English and Connor Carr are all awaiting scan results after picking up their respective injuries, but in what is somewhat of a silver lining, Kieran Rush and Oli Russell, both of whom looked to end the game injured, have been deemed fit to play.

The trio’s return date are yet to be confirmed, but there are timescales for the majority of the injured Giants men, including Niall Evalds (calf), Adam Clune (ankle) and Adam Swift (hamstring), who will all return in early April.

Set to return in late April is Sam Halsall (hamstring) and Joe Greenwood (ankle), whilst Harry Rushton (thumb) is expected back in early May.

Zac Woolford and Archie Sykes will both continue to be monitored having a number of head knocks in a short space of time, whilst Sam Hewitt has had surgery on his ankle today, Tuesday.

Liam Sutcliffe (hamstring) is expected back in late July, whilst youngsters Marshall Land (ankle) and Logan Blacker (thigh) are set for returns in late May and mid-April respectively.

The final absentee sees Tanguy Zenon miss out, who isn’t injured, but is cup-tied after featuring in the competition with Halifax Panthers.
