Huddersfield Giants confirm they tried to keep star player as they reveal move was complete “some time” ago

Huddersfield Giants have confirmed one of the worst kept secrets in rugby league at present: that Will Pryce is headed to Australia.

It remains for Newcastle Knights to confirm the signing, which is set to come alongside that of Kai Pearce-Paul from Wigan Warriors, but the Giants have now confirmed he will be leaving the club at the end of 2023.

Speaking about the move, Huddersfield Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis admitted they had known that the move was coming for some time: “We have known for some time now via Will’s management and Will himself that he was set for a move in 2024 and we wish him every possible success.”

He also went on to confirm that the club tried to keep him but Pryce’s ambitions saw them miss out:

“For our part we did of course want him to stay and gave him an opportunity to do so but his heart is set on a change of lifestyle and new challenge abroad.”

Pryce will now leave the club at the end of 2023 to move to the NRL and will hope for a big last season at the Giants: “Will leaves in around a years’ time with our very best wishes for the future and we look forward to watching his progress down under.”
