Huddersfield Giants’ newly-appointed head coach Luke Robinson has sent a warning to his squad in a passionate challenge to his players.
It’s been another season to write off for the Giants but they end it with a new head coach and some motivation to head towards 2025, however, Robinson has sent out a warning to his Huddersfield players going into these final two matches of the season.
Facing Warrington Wolves tomorrow before hosting Castleford Tigers next week, there is little to play for barring pride a second consecutive ninth-placed finish looking likely.
However, pride is all that matters according to Robinson who has argued that any player not showing motivation in the final two fixtures is not someone who he wants in his squad going forward.
“If you can’t find the motivation to play professional rugby at Super League level, then I’ve got the wrong players and they will be getting moved on,” Robinson declared as he spoke to BBC West Yorkshire before the clash against Wire.
“It’s not what I’m about, it’s not what the club should be about.”
Huddersfield Giants boss fires warning at players
It’s no surprise to see Robinson make such comments with the 40-year-old proudly donning the Huddersfield colours for the majority of his career, making over 220 appearances for the Giants.
During that time he lifted the League Leaders Shield, the last piece of silverware that the club had lifted. That came over a decade ago, back in 2013 but Robinson looks to have a tough task to turn the team around into contenders once again.
Last week he cited Hull KR as the team that he would like to ’emulate’ with the Robins providing the blueprint for how a team can go from relegation battlers to Super League contenders.
Robinson’s Giants could do the Robins a huge favour and help them all but secure a home play-off semi-final if they beat Warrington and the Huddersfield boss has given some words that will surely inspire, or at least strike fear into his side.
“Every time you enter that field, I’ve used this analogy numerous times, if you go back in time and ask yourself that seven, eight year old, nine year old kid that you have an opportunity to play against one of the best teams in Super League at this current time, to play Super League for Huddersfield Giants and you can’t find the motivation to put your to play Super League for Huddersfield Giants…
“If you can’t find the motivation to put your best foot forward for yourself, for your family, for your teammates and for the club and for the fans, then you’re in the wrong profession and you’re definitely in the wrong club.”
