Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson is having a miserable start to the season as they remain at the foot of the Super League table.
In their sixth consecutive loss, they were beaten 50-4 by Hull KR and despite some first-half promise, they fell apart in the second half again.
Robinson admitted that his side needs to learn quickly if they’re going to get some points on the board sooner rather than later.
Speaking to Sky Sports post-match and reflecting on the loss, he said: “Look, they’re obviously the best side in the competition at the moment and probably showed it again today. They were really good. We could not touch Mikey Lewis.
“It was a little bit of a baptism of fire I suppose for young George Flanagan. He hasn’t played many games but he knows what it’s like now to play against some of the best attacking players in the league.
“It wasn’t just him, I thought our right edge, they stripped us on numerous occasions and we’ve got to learn, learn fast.
“You just can’t give the best team in the league that much possession and expect to come out on top.
“We’ve got to learn fast because we keep doing it to ourselves, we just give them that much ball and fatigue just plays its part.”
Luke Robinson gives an update on Huddersfield Giants’ injury crisis
However, there could be some positives over the next couple of months as the Huddersfield Giants boss hopes to get some of his troops back into his squad but he needs his side to tough it out until then.
Talking about the returning players, he added: “There’s a little bit of light on the horizon. I think George King and Joe Greenwood are looking to be back in the next couple of weeks.
It’s not great news on the spine players, Niall Evalds is out for four months, Adam Clune’s about another seven or eight weeks off, Zac Woolford’s about the same, and young Kieran Rush, who plays in the halves as well, he’s about six weeks.
“We’ve still got to do it tough for a fair few weeks yet, we’ve got to try finding a way to win without our more experienced players, we just need to try to find a way until they come back.”
Which games do the Giants target as a must-win?
When asked if they’re targeting Castleford Tigers in round nine of the competition as a must-win game, he said that every game is as important as the next one.
He finished: “We’re targeting every game, we want to win as many games as we can, we’re trying to put our best foot forward each and every week but they’re all important games.
“I don’t want to keep harping on about the players that we’ve got missing and the start we’ve had but we’ve just got to find a way and try to scrap a win any which way.
“Hopefully, if we can scrap a couple of wins and we get some players back on board with a little bit of experience then we can hopefully springboard our season.
“The way you get out of situations like this is hard work and defence, we’re not going to win 40-0 or 50-0, we’re going to scrap a win so we’ve just got to concentrate on those two aspects.”

Even with our injured players back we will struggle. Along with the move to Halifax next season I’m afraid the Giants are on a downward spiral. Below average players and back room staff. Championship rugby for the next few years.
