Huddersfield Giants boss makes Jake Granville admission amid links

Huddersfield Giants interim boss Luke Robinson admits Jake Granville is one name being considered by the club ahead of next season. The hooker has been linked with a move to the John Smith’s Stadium as he prepares to leave North Queensland Cowboys after 10 seasons.

With Adam Milner’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, the Giants are in the market for a new number nine and Granville, who will turn 36 before the start of next season appears to fit the bill. Having started his career with Brisbane Broncos in 2013, Granville has been with the Cowboys since 2015, making 207 appearances in the NRL and 11 outings in the finals.

He was a member of the Cowboys side that won the NRL Grand Final in 2015 and the World Club Challenge in 2016. However, he has played his last game for the Townsville club with his season being ended through injury and a Cowboys statement indicated Granville’s preference to continue playing overseas.

“He’s somebody that’s been tossed up,” Robinson said about Granville, per Serious About RL’s sister organisation the Yorkshire Post. “We’ve had a fair few names tossed up in numerous positions and he’s one of them.

“He’s been a fabulous player throughout his career and has achieved great things.

“He’s played very well throughout his career. He’s knocking on a bit in age and has played pretty tough for a lot of his career – he’s played loose forward as well as nine and is only a small middle.

“I’ve made recommendations that I feel will be best for this current squad and best for the future. What’s come of that, I’m not sure yet.”
