Despite their winless run continuing, Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson insisted they’re going in the right direction.
It was a spirited effort from the Giants but they came up short again against a strong Rhinos attack.
There was a consolation try for Tom Burgess in a huge performance from the prop but they lost 28-6 at AMT Headingley.
Coach Robinson said they’re getting closer to their maiden victory and praised the youngsters he brought into the squad for the game, who fit in alongside his more experienced players.
Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, he said: “We obviously lost, we didn’t pick up the two points but I was unbelievably proud of them then.
“We had two Academy lads making their debut and I thought they were great. They’re only really young, I drafted them in last-minute due to the injuries.
“The senior blokes that were with them were also great, the middles tried extremely hard.”
The Huddersfield Giants boss was most pleased about the effort from his squad but thought their first-half efforts left them short in energy towards the end of the second half.
He added: “They were scrambling for their teammates, for the badge, for the club and I thought it was really telling with that effort and desire.
“We were a little bit naive in the first half, we put ourselves under too much pressure.
“I think they (Leeds) completed at about 90+%, a very good team.
“Fatigue eventually just set in but really proud of them.
“We’ll learn from it hopefully and those young kids will be better for it. In the long run, I think it’ll be good for the club.”
Huddersfield Giants boss gives injury update as another player limped off
Added to the injury list was Liam Sutcliffe, who limped off in the second half.
Robinson shared that he’s pulled his groin but it’s too early to determine the extent of his injury.
He said: “The pain that he was walking off with doesn’t fill me with much hope.
“It looks a bit of a bad one really, he’s in a lot of pain.
“He’s got some mates that can keep him company in the physio room though, there are a lot of them in there.”
However, there is some good news for Huddersfield Giants fans as they should have bodies returning in the next couple of weeks.
They next face Castleford Tigers before heading to Magic Weekend to play Hull FC.
Whilst Robinson didn’t name any players specifically, he was optimistic that he would have extra players to pick from.
He finished: “There’s a little bit of a ray of sunshine over the hills, we’ve probably got one or two coming back next week.
“After that for Magic Weekend, we should have two or three back again.
“All of a sudden in the next five or six weeks, we can start getting some troops back.
“If we play with the same effort and desire and we have some of our experienced spine members to that group, hopefully things will look up for us.”
