Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson has three pressing jobs ahead of 2025 rebuild

Huddersfield Giants head coach Luke Robinson has a lot to do ahead of next season.

By mid-April last season, the Giants had hit 50+ points on three separate occasions, and had made their way to the Challenge Cup semi-finals, 80 minutes from Wembley.

However, it must be hard to imagine that period of time for Giants fans now, with the side going through a slump in form that eventually saw the club part ways with Ian Watson.

Luke Robinson is the man who has been trusted to take the reins on a permanent basis after first being interim coach.

What does he need to do ahead of 2025?

Use new leaders

The Giants need someone to grab this side by the scruff of its neck and get them to start playing with desire.

This could be someone like Tom Burgess, whose signing brings vast experience to the squad.

Luke Yates was the captain before leaving for Warrington Wolves and Leroy Cudjoe took the role over the second half of the season.

He’ll still be around after signing an extension for 2025, but will need those around him to build a leadership group.

Reduce the dependence on Swift

Adam Swift was comfortably the top try scorer for the side last year, despite being injured for the rest of the season after just 10 Super League games.

Kevin Naiqama and Esan Marsters were behind him – but neither of them are at the club anymore, so now they need to make sure other players can get on the board.

His injury also coincided with a major downturn in form after a good year, so they need to make sure that doesn’t happen again any time he’s unavailable.

Get the fans on side

After a gradual decrease in crowds at John Smith’s Stadium over the past few seasons, Huddersfield Giants need them to return.

A genuine home advantage can make a huge difference to teams that are struggling to put points on the board, and it’s something they haven’t really had for a while.
