Huddersfield Giants boss Jim Lenihan has assessed his side’s poor showing in defeat to Toulouse Olympique this afternoon.
Losing 30-16 at Dewsbury’s FLAIR Stadium, the stadium change would not bring the side any luck, with the French side completely dominating the Giants, in what was a concerning display.
Joe Greenwood, George Flanagan Jr and Jacob Gagai crossed for the home side, but that would be far from enough, as they conceded six scores against the side sitting just one place above them in the table.
Lenihan has stressed that his job is a long-term project, and change won’t come instantly, however that doesn’t make the result any less poor.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “We were no doubt disappointing. I think change is certainly hard at the moment.
“We’re beating ourselves, we don’t even have to put the opposition under too much pressure, we help them a lot, so certainly some things to work on.”
The Giants were their own worst enemy, and with confidence levels on the floor, that is something the new boss is hoping to change as soon as possible.
“The mindset, and everything that goes with that at the moment, we’re trying to find different ways to do different things in the game,” he said.
“We haven’t got the discipline and mental mindset at the moment just to finish sets off, put them into a corner and give ourselves the best chance of defending.
“We’re struggling with that, but that’s the change that we’re going to go through.
Despite the result, Lenihan has insisted that nothing has changed in terms of the task that lies ahead. The new boss knows the level of the rebuild that needs to be undertaken, and it is something that won’t be an easy fix.
“We’ve just got to keep working hard, there’s no shortcut out of it. There’s parts of the game where we’re trying to catch them, and we did it in little bits today.
“We’ve got to get those bits longer, and we’ve got to make sure that we just keep competing as hard as we can, as long as we can.”
