Huddersfield Giants boss answers England head coach question with honest self assessment

Huddersfield Giants

Huddersfield Giants head coach Luke Robinson has ruled out of the possibility of him filling the vacant England head coach position.

Robinson is approaching his second full season as a head coach after taking the Giants reins full-time in September 2024. It’s fair to say his first year on the job was a challenging one, too, as Huddersfield struggled with injuries and form as a result for much of the campaign.

Consequently, the Giants finished 10th in the Super League table with a late surge in form seeing them pick up four wins in their last eight games to leapfrog Castleford Tigers in the table.

With Huddersfield striving to leave those mitigating circumstances behind, the hope at the Accu Stadium is that they’ll be able to move up the table under Robinson and potentially even push on towards a play-off spot this year.

Robinson shares that confidence and he believes he is a better head coach for the trials and tribulations of the 2025 campaign. However, he doesn’t believe he is ready to succeed Shaun Wane in the England role just yet.

“It would be everyone’s dream one day but no, I’m still finding my way,” Robinson, who is one of eight English head coaches in Super League, said. “I’ve only done one year as a head coach and it was a baptism of fire last year.

“That’s probably a slight understatement as well. I learned a lot last year and I’m a better coach for it. I’m definitely a better head coach now than what I was but I’m still only in my early days and I’ll let the big dogs sort that out.

“I’ve heard about five different names and each and every one of them, I think there’s an argument.”
