Huddersfield Giants assistant Luke Robinson wants head coaching job

Head Coach of Huddersfield Giants Luke Robinson prior to kick off

Huddersfield Giants assistant coach Luke Robinson has been learning from the best at present.

Second-in-command to Ian Watson, Robinson has helped oversee a dramatic upturn in form for the West Yorkshire club as the Giants move from the bottom half of the table into the top and almost scoop the Challenge Cup in just their second season together.

And, the former Giant and Wigan Warriors player wants a head coaching role in the future – though not yet.

“Yeah I think so (I want to be ahead coach), if I’m being honest I’ve got a really young family and I see what stress it puts on Watto (Ian Watson).

“It’s always somebody’s goal to be ahead coach and I would like to test myself because I think I could do it and I would be good at it.

“I’m really enjoying it under Watto, he’s an exceptional coach – managing players as well as tactically and managing your roster.

“We have a lot in common too as we are both midgets and were both halfbacks!”

Robinson, of course, took charge of Huddersfield for a number of games following the exit of Simon Woolford two years ago and so gained valuable experience, but it remains to be seen which particular job he would put himself in the running for if it became available.
