Huddersfield Giants have confirmed that Chris Hill will leave the John Smith’s Stadium at the end of the season.
Hill has been with the Giants since joining from Warrington Wolves ahead of the 2022 Super League season and he has made a big impact in that time. The 36-year-old has made 59 appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit and helped the club reach the 2022 Challenge Cup final.
However, this season will be his last in Huddersfield with his next step in the game yet to be revealed.
“I just want to thank everyone from staff to players but especially the fans who have stuck with us even in bad times, I’ve enjoyed some of my best rugby at Huddersfield and made some friends for life and I wish the club, and everyone involved the best for the future,” Hill said in a statement released on the Giants website.
Hill has made over 500 first-team appearances as a player, starting his career with Leigh where he featured 160 times for the Centurions, as they were known then, before making the move to Warrington Wolves. He managed to make 296 outings for the Wire and while he never managed to win a Super League Grand Final in primrose and blue, he did win two Challenge Cups.
An England and Great Britain international, with 35 caps coming for the former and four with the latter, Hill is regarded as one of the best front-rowers to grace the game in recent years.
“You will not find anyone at the club with anything but positives to say about Chris Hill” said Giants managing director Richard Thewlis.
“He has done everything and more for us that he promised when he signed back in 2022 and who knows how differently our final at Tottenham may have been had our pack leader not been injured early on.
“It’s been agreed that its best now for both parties to move forward in different directions and we will miss Chris, but we wish him every success in his next venture, and he knows he will always be welcomed back with his place as one of the modern-day great prop forwards assured and a super legacy at this club.”
