Huddersfield Giants head coach Luke Robinson has suggested that his club should be replicating Hull KR as a pathway to success.
The Giants have struggled for the past couple of years, with back-to-back third-placed finishes now confirmed.
In addition, crowds have been dwindling for the past decade, and the team has seemed to roll over on a number of occasions – most recently in a 66-0 home defeat to Warrington Wolves.

Speaking this week on The Bench Podcast with Jenna Brooks and Jon Wilkin, Luke Robinson revealed his hopes for next season: “Look, I think for us, for where we are this season, all the trials and tribulations that we’ve gone through, I think making the play-offs would be a step in the right direction.”
They’re currently 11 points behind Leigh Leopards, who are in the final play-off spot.
He continued: “I really like what Hull KR have done. I think they’ve really built that. If you just look what they’ve done, not only on the field but off the field, they’ve seemed to have slowly built. They’ve got in a lot of players, they’ve recruited a lot of honest, hard-working players.
“And what’s happened is they’ve built the culture of honesty, hard work, and then slowly and surely what they’ve done is they’ve just added that little bit of quality.
“It’s not something that’s happened overnight, it’s something they’ve built and I feel like it’s something we need to do here.”

In fact, Hull KR were in the Championship in 2017, before 10th, 11th and 11th placed finishes.
In 2021 and 2023 they reached the play-off semi-finals, and will surely be hoping to go at least one step further this season.
Robinson, asked if his side should use KR as a model, responded: “I think we should do. Look at what they’ve done.
“They’ve literally gone from mid table… where now they are consistently competing at the top of the league.
“You look and think I think ‘they’ve got a good chance of winning it’.
