Huddersfield Giants were humiliated at the hands of Warrington Wolves on Saturday night, as their home fans saw a 66-0 defeat in what was surely the worst moment of their season.
A 12-try display kept Warrington Wolves within touching distance of the top two, but consigned Huddersfield to further frustration, after conceding 60 points to Salford last month as well.
Luke Robinson, originally interim coach for the Giants, has signed an extension with the club, also officially making him head coach.
Luke Robinson laments lack of effort in Huddersfield Giants thumping
Following the game, speaking to Sky Sports, Robinson said how frustrating the performance was: “We were extremely disappointing. Look, we had a lot of players out with and we had a lot of young lads and inexperienced lads but the manner in which went down was really disappointing.
“The players that they had out compared to ours obviously were a big difference but the manner in which that happened was really, really disappointing.
“We just were not good enough for each and every man.
“Two lads made their debut today and for Jack Billington, it was pretty much like his debut, so you’ve got three lads there and the older lads have got a responsibility to actually make it a memorable one.”
He then launched into a scathing review of his players, saying: “Win or lose, you at least want the effort and I personally didn’t think it was there tonight.
“There will be a lot of new faces [next week], it will be a different side and I just want to effort and desire and I think we’ll hopefully see that next week.”
Asked about his plan for the next 12 months, he added: “You want to be challenging at the top but for us and where we are as a squad, I think our goal should be to get in the playoffs. If we get in the playoffs, it’s a remarkable difference.”
