Huddersfield and Canberra set up cross-continent academy

Huddersfield Giants have joined forces with Canberra Raiders to set up a cross-continent academy.

The scheme aims to give young players from West Yorkshire the chance to play rugby league in Australia.

Giants boss and ex-Raiders player Simon Woolford and Head of Youth Andy Kelly were joined in Huddersfield by Canberra CEO Don Furner this week to finalise the deal.

The two clubs will liaise throughout the season to establish when the first group of players will make the trip down under.

“This academy partnership will allow talented young English players the opportunity to come to Australia and test themselves against the best young players in Australia,” Furner told the Raiders’ website. “They will have the opportunity to train and play in the Raiders junior system and go back home with more experience.”
