How Warrington Wolves could line up in 2023

After a difficult season in 2022 and an 11th placed finish, 2023 is Warrington Wolves’ chance to change things and get back to the top of Super League after Daryl Powell has drafted in some key signings.

So, here’s how they could line up in 2023:

Fullback: Matt Dufty
If you were cooking up the best modern Super League player they would look a lot like Matt Dufty, with pace, power and skill he could devastate teams from fullback in 2023 after impressing following his mid-season arrival last year.

Wingers: Josh Thewlis and Matty Ashton
Two young wingers with pace and finishing power, if the players on the inside create as many chances as you’d expect, these two could score tries for fun.

Centres: Peter Mata’utia and Stefan Ratchford
When Connor Wrench is fit again, he could change the make up of the centres, but at the start of the season Stefan Ratchford, a trustworthy veteran, will do a great job in the role alongside the brilliant Peter Mata’utia.

Halfbacks: George Williams and Josh Drinkwater
It is the role of Josh Drinkwater to bring the best out of George Williams in 2023 after he impressed at the World Cup. A great kicker, he will free Williams up to shine this year.

Props: James Harrison and Paul Vaughan
A great starting front row that will give the Wolves a foothold in matches every week. In James Harrison they have a modern work horse and Vaughan provides experience.

Hooker: Daryl Clark
A former Man of Steel who still has great speed and strength and the ability to read the situation and devastate teams. He is still one of Super League’s best hookers.

Second-Rowers: Ben Currie and Matty Nicholson
After the departures of Jack Hughes and Oliver Holmes, Warrington Wolves’ backrow is now a new look backrow with testimonial man Ben Currie joined by former Wigan Warriors man and exciting youngster Matty Nicholson.

Loose-Forward: Josh McGuire
From youth to experience, McGuire is the only World Cup winner in Super League having helped Australia to the trophy in 2017. He brings great experience and leadership.

Substitutes: Danny Walker, Sam Kasiano, Gil Dudson, Joe Bullock
New signings from Catalans Dragons Sam Kasiano and Gil Dudson will cause opposition sides endless problems in 2023. As will lively hooker Danny Walker. The last spot is open for the likes of Tom Mikalae, Joe Bullock and even young Luke Thomas to take.
