How Toby King’s move to Huddersfield resulted in him moving in with his parents

A few weeks ago, Super League fans were shocked to see a swap move with Toby king joining the high flying Huddersfield and Jake Wardle replacing him at Warrington despite having just made his England debut.

Speaking to the press today, Toby King revealed that it was just as much as a surprise for him as it was for the fans: “Really enjoying it, the lads have been really welcoming. I just sort of showed up and I think they were as shocked as me because it sort of happened over night.

“I was on the way to Warrington training and then got a call of Watto.

“When I got there the lads were all really welcoming and I’m getting to know them.

“Luckily I knew quite a few of them because I’m a Huddersfield lad.”

So, it’s safe to say King has felt very welcomed since joining the Giants and he revealed it was nice to see a familiar face in former Warrington teammate Chris Hill: “As soon as I walked through the door he was like ‘I can’t get rid of you.’ It was good to see him. He’s making everyone laugh as he did at Warrington.”

The centre also opened up on how he feels the move – whether short term or long term – will benefit him: “I was shocked I didn’t know it was coming. But that phone call with Watson put that belief back in me. I think he can really play to my strengths. He’s a really good coach and we’re already having regular meetings.

“I think this is the best thing for me.”

He does not know however whether the loan will culminate in a permanent switch: “I don’t know what will go on. At the minute it’s just a loan until the end of the year but enjoying myself at the minute.”

As he mentioned, King is a Huddersfield lad and spent time in their scholarship set up. So when it came to joining the Giants, he had an easy fix to his living situation moving back home to his mum and dad who still live in Huddersfield: “I’m at my parents house now. I just showed up.”
