Leeds Rhinos star Jake Connor stands on the precipice of Super League history ahead of Friday night’s final-round clash with Hull FC, needing just three try assists to match Luke Gale’s long-standing all-time single-season record.
The playmaker has been in sensational form in 2026, pulling the strings in the Rhinos’ attack and racking up an astonishing 43 try assists so far this campaign.
That tally puts him within touching distance of Gale’s iconic record of 46, set during his Man of Steel-winning campaign with Castleford Tigers in 2016.
Should Connor notch three assists against his former club at Headingley, he will tie Gale’s landmark figure, while four would see him claim sole ownership of the all-time Super League record.
What makes Connor’s pursuit even more remarkable is the difference in games played:
Luke Gale set the record of 46 assists across a 30-game season. That campaign included 23 regular-season rounds (home, away, and Magic Round) followed by the Super 8s era.
Jake Connor has reached 43 assists heading into Round 27, meaning he has the chance to tie or break the record in three fewer matches than it took Gale.
Fate awaits against the Black and Whites
Adding an extra layer of narrative to Friday’s showdown is the opponent. Connor spent six years with Hull FC between 2017 and 2022, often leading their creative engine and topping the club’s assist charts.
Now, as the Airlie Birds arrive at Headingley for their final fixture of the regular season, Connor has the chance to write his name into rugby league history books at the expense of his old side.
With Leeds aiming to hit the ground running ahead of the play-offs and Hull FC looking to send departing figures off on a high, all eyes will be on the Leeds half-back to see if he can deliver one more masterclass.
