“Hopefully” – Hull FC keen on Wigan Warriors man as they target extended deal

Update on Wigan Warriors loan players

Hull FC’s annus horribilis continues, and shows no sign of improving. FC lost their 11th Super League game of the season at the weekend, going down 30-22 against the side above them in the table, Castleford Tigers.

The Black and Whites have brought in a number of players mid-season in the hope of turning their year around. Tom Briscoe joined the club from the Leigh Leopards to bolster their inexperienced back line. Ben Reynolds also joined from city rivals, Hull KR, to add some much needed creativity to the halves.

One of their most impressive signings has been young forward, Tiaki Chan, from the Wigan Warriors. Chan got on the scoresheet against the Tigers and added some punch to the FC pack. Chan is on a rolling loan deal with Hull to help him gain much needed match fitness.

Now, Grix has provided an update on his future at the MKM Stadium.

Grix was impressed with Chan’s performance against Castleford and spoke highly of the qualities that he brings to the club.

Speaking in his weekly press conference, Grix stated that he is hopeful that Chan will be able to stay at the MKM Stadium for prolonged period after a strong start.

“Yeah, hopefully we can keep him for a decent amount of time.

“Obviously, Wigan have got some great depth and getting a look in there has been difficult for him. that’s why he’s here, and, he has shown some really good stuff.

“He’s still young and a baby in the sport, if you like. He’s got a long way to go, but he’s got a lot of good qualities and we are thankful he’s with us at the moment.

Hull FC face a trip to the Huddersfield Giants on Friday night, where they will be looking to pick up their second win of the season.

Tiaki Chan has a breakthrough season at the Catalans Dragons last season. He was a regular part of the side which qualified for the Super League Grand Final, and produced a string of eye catching displays.

Chan made 14 appearances for Les Dracs in 2023, making one try assist, 705 metres, 152 tackles, 13 tackle busts and three offloads. He joined the Wigan Warriors in the off season, with hopes of breaking into their first team squad.

However, Chan has found his opportunities limited by the depth of Wigan’s squad and has been restricted to just three appearances for Wigan this season. However, he has made a good start to life in Hull, having debuted in their defeat against bottom side London Broncos.

His try against Castleford was just the second Super League try of his career. In that game he averaged 11 metres per carry and made five tackle busts in an impressive performance.
