Home of NRL head coach and ex-Hull KR man shot in accidental incident

NRL head coach Anthony Seibold

An elderly man has been charged after a bullet was fired at the garage of NRL head coach and former Hull KR man Anthony Seibold.

The 88-year-old man is alleged to have fired a gun accidentally, with the bullet hitting Seibold’s property in North Curl Curl, Sydney. The man is a neighbour to Seibold and while no one was hurt during the incident, he is now due to appear in court in March.

According to Channel 9 News, police went on to discover a pistol, a rifle and ammunition within the neighbour’s home.

“We’ve got a lovely neighbour who… unfortunately an accident occurred where a bullet went through the garage,” Seibold said while speaking to 9News.

“Look, it wasn’t anything sinister.”

Seibold spent several years as a player in the Northern Hemisphere with London Broncos, Hull KR and Celtic Crusaders and he also coached South Wales Scorpions for a brief period before heading back Down Under. During his time in England he skippered the Robins for two seasons and made 55 appearances for the Broncos.

The 50-year-old is now an established NRL coach, of course, having had spells at the helm at South Sydney Rabbitohs and Brisbane Broncos. However, he is currently preparing for the start of his third season in charge of Manly Sea Eagles.

After finishing 12th in his first season, he led the Sea Eagles to a 7th placed finish in 2024 before crashing out of the play-offs at the first hurdle. However, he’ll be confident of seeing his side make even more progress this year and secure a finish inside the top six.
