St Helens have confirmed the appointment of Sydney Roosters assistant Justin Holbrook as their new head coach.
Following the sacking of Keiron Cunningham last month, Saints have been in search of a new coach with Sean Long and Jamahl Lolesi taking temporary charge.
However, after interviewing several candidates for the role, they have opted to appoint current Junior Kangaroos head coach Holbrook, 41, on a two-and-a-half year contract.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to be the head coach of St Helens,” said Holbrook.
“The club has a rich and proud history and I am very grateful to have been given the opportunity. St Helens are one of the top teams in the Super League competition with a history of success.
“I will be working hard to continue that tradition and I cannot wait to get started.”
A former half-back for Newcastle Knights, Penrith Panthers and the Roosters, Holbrook will take over with Saints currently sitting seventh in the Super League table.
Both Long and Lolesi will remain as part of Holbrook’s coaching team with Derek Traynor, who has recently assisted with first team matters, returning to focus on the club’s Academy set-up.
