“He’s wrong” – Jon Wilkin hits back at Josh Charnley comments

On Friday night Leigh Leopards stunned Champions St Helens defeating them 20-12 despite trailing 12-0 at the break.

Speaking after the game, Josh Charnley spoke to Leigh Leopards’ YouTube channel and said the win was good especially because of the way Leigh were written off:

“Yeah especially with the way we were written off at the beginning of the year with people saying we wouldn’t win a game, they’re an unreal outfit but we can’t get ahead of ourselves but it is a good win.

“We’re a very tight knit group, like I said we’re going to surprise a few teams this year. We were written off and the way we have gelled and come together is class.

“Another good win and we’ll just keep going and I think we’re going to surprise a few teams this year but we can’t get ahead of ourselves.”

These comments were put to fellow winger Tom Briscoe today on Sky Sports’ Rugby League Verdict.

Briscoe said of this line of thinking: “Newly promoted teams haven’t been successful recently. Derek signed early and created a great squad but that doesn’t negate the press and what gets said outside the club.

“We know what we’re capable of and we’re only going to get better the more we gel as a team.

“We’re getting better every week.”

However, Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin hit back against these comments saying they were “wrong”: “Can I just say to Josh Charnley that nobody has written Leigh all year, so he is wrong there, everyone has said how well Leigh are going to do.”
