‘He’s an absolute maniac!’ Leon Pryce gives his verdict on Brian McDermott as a player and a person

With Premier Sports in full flow last night, there were a few humorous bits and pieces from new pundits Leon Pryce and Kevin Brown.

One anecdote in particular stood out when the punditry team, led by new host Emma Jones, was asked what Featherstone Rovers head coach Brian McDermott was like.

Pryce took the lead, having played with him at the Bradford Bulls back when the halfback was a winger – and was certainly happy to see the former Leeds Rhinos boss back in the game.

“When I was a young boy at Bradford coming through at 15, he was one of the many senior players,” Pryce said.

“He’s an absolute maniac! But, he’s a really good guy.

“He comes through the Brian Smith and Tony Smith old school and plays the mind games with the media.

“He’s Super League’s most successful coach so he’s obviously doing something right – I’m pleased to see him back in the game.”

McDermott’s reign at Featherstone started in the most ideal fashion, overcoming the Knights 30-12 in a superb encounter that had viewers on Premier Sports excited and on the edge of their seats.
