A day after the passing of Rob Burrow, teammate and best mate Kevin Sinfield has paid an emotional and moving tribute.

Sinfield is surely the greatest friend of all time, and has fundraised for MND, the condition Rob Burrow had, for the past few years, capturing the hearts of the nation.

He ran seven marathons in seven days in 2020, raising over £2 million.

After the devastating news of Rob Burrow’s passing, Sinfield spoke to the BBC on what his friend meant to him.

He said: “So brave, so tough. I wish he could have seen the outpouring of love.

“I think we all lose special people, but it’s very, very rare that you lose someone who’s so special to so many different people.

“As you can see, it’s pretty raw. He will leave a massive hole. There are a lot of people out there who are heartbroken this morning after the news from yesterday. A lot of people from the MND community will be heartbroken this morning.”

Burrow’s legacy will be a special one, and the world, from rugby league and beyond, has reacted with nothing but respect.

Tributes have been pouring in both online and at Headingley since the heartbreaking news, and has united the rugby league world.

Sinfield continued: “He cared about everybody and that is what’s really, really important is that Rob Burrow continues to live forever.

“Our team, I’m sure the MND community and everyone who’s supported us previously will make sure that Rob’s name is at the forefront of everything we do going forward.

“I saw and was amazed at some of the things that he did on the rugby field but what he’s done over the last four and a half years has been unbelievable. The respect and love and admiration that I’ve got for him couldn’t be any higher.

“The inspiration that he has given everybody across the UK, who has been across this story, will live in the memories forever.”

Both of them received special awards at the 2022 Sports Personality of the Year awards, and nobody has ever been so deserving.

There’s only one Rob Burrow, that’s for sure, but his story will surely have inspired many to attempt to continue his remarkable legacy.
