Head coach gives parting shot to departing forward after not being “on the same page with regards to performance expectations”

Gadwin Springer has been released by the Halifax Panthers.

The French Guiana-born prop made 58 appearances for Castleford in Super League between 2015 and 2018 after bursting through the Catalans youth system.

Springer made one appearance for Fax on-loan in 2018 before moving permanently to the Toronto Wolfpack ahead of the 2019 Championship season. But, his stay at the Panthers has been cut short.

Director of Rugby Ian Croad released this statement:

“As in any business sometimes things don’t work out as planned  for both parties. We are focusing on finishing as high as possible in the regular season as we push towards the playoffs. We made the decision to go our separate ways. We wish Gadwin all the best for the future, and he’s always welcome at the Shay when he’s not playing.”

Head coach Simon Grix, however, pointed to the differing in views on performance expectations:

“We find ourselves at Round 14 where unfortunately we haven’t been able to get on the same page with regards to performance expectations. So with serious thought and consideration, we have mutually reached a crossroads, where it is better for both Gadwin and the club to move forward on different paths,” Grix said.

“There is certainly no ill-feeling from us towards Gadwin and we wish him well for the future. Sometimes things just don’t work out. We hope to have positive news in the coming weeks with regards to adding to our squad as we look to secure the best possible finish to the season.”

Fax currently sit in third in the Championship.
