“He will be here on Tuesday”- Sinfield on Prior

Leeds Rhinos Director of Rugby Kevin Sinfield has said forward Matt Prior will return to the UK on Tuesday after a delay.

Prior played a key role for the Rhinos in 2020, as they won the Challenge Cup, and finished fourth in the Super League.

Sinfield says Prior is in a similar position to many Australians who have gone home, and looked at the situation in the UK.

He said: “The players have gone from a cold, wet season in Super League to a very warm Australia. Some players have seen that the country is still in lockdown, and it is very different to what we sold to them when they signed.

“Prior is booked on a flight on Monday, and will arrive on Tuesday. We waited until  (Prime Minister Johnson) Boris’s announcement. His reasons were purely family reasons- we were as compassionate as we could be.

“I think he will come on his own to start with, then his family will follow.”

The club has to be understanding about this situation. If I was a player from Down Under, or their partner, I’d think more than twice about coming to the UK after watching what an appalling mess the UK government has made of managing the pandemic, compared to both Aus and NZ. Never mind, he’s coming now, and based on his performances last year he’ll give 100%, which is all we can ask. Can’t wait for the season to kick off! MOT ALAW.
