Super League action returned last night and there was a familiar sight on Sky Sports as Marc Sneyd was handed yet another Man of the Match medal for his stunning performance in Salford’s win over Warrington Wolves.
The Red Devils punished a sloppy Warrington side and ran out as 25-14 winners after leading 19-0 at half-time courtesy of a Marc Sneyd masterclass. The half-back slotted his 50th Super League drop goal on the halftime hooter after having scored a try of his own earlier in the half.
He’d then create one for Deon Cross in the second half, ending the night with 13 points and yet another Man of the Match medal, something that’s becoming commonplace for the Man of Steel leader.
It was confirmed earlier this week that England will play Samoa in an end-of-season international series and whilst England have plenty of elite halves such as Mikey Lewis, Harry Smith and captain George Williams, it’s becoming harder and harder to ignore Marc Sneyd.
One Sky Sports pundit has now claimed that Sneyd has to be on the plane to travel to face France at the end of the month when England’s Men and Women star in a double-header in Toulouse.

That man is former Leeds Rhinos forward Barrie McDermott who has claimed that Sneyd should be a shoo-in for Shaun Wane’s squad, whilst also admitting that he feels a “fraud” given how many Man of the Match medals he has awarded to Marc Sneyd this season.
Speaking post-game on Sky Sports, McDermott said: “I’m going to go back to Mark Sneyd. Paul Rowley said ‘He loves playing on Sky’ because he’s had quite a few of these Man of the Match medals.
“I’ve probably given him four Man of the Match. It’s my job to give Man of the Match but I feel a fraud because there’s only one man dictating and controlling this pitch, this rugby ball, and this crowd.
“He quietened the crowd to the point where they were getting a little bit unsettled and you even heard a couple of boos.”
Another Leeds Rhinos legend Jamie Jones-Buchanan then posed the question: ‘Does Marc Sneyd start for England’, to which McDermott had a resounding answer.
“He’s got to be in on form, hasn’t he? Who would he partner, Mikey Lewis?”
The pair are currently first and third in the Man of Steel race with 15 and 14 points respectively and Sneyd’s generalship mixed with the electric Lewis would be a combination that strikes fear into any side.
Whether Shaun Wane will heed that advice is yet to be seen though with the England boss having opted for youth in the mid-season test against France in 2023.
