Harry Newman’s England replacement revealed

Warrington Wolves’ Josh Thewlis has replaced Harry Newman in the England squad.

Newman – after a terrible time with injury in recent seasons – had been included in Wane’s 20-man squad with a centre spot looking likely alongside Wakefield Trinity centre Reece Lyne, though Zak Hardaker was eventually picked in front.

However, it has since been revealed that Newman left the squad after aggravating a leg injury with Warrington youngster and England Knight Connor Wrench having taken his place.

Wrench has made six first-team appearances for Warrington in 2021 and even made a try-scoring debut for the England Knights against Jamaica in Jordan Turner’s testimonial game last week.

The 20-year-old will be used as cover by England head coach Shaun Wane, but it epitomises a meteoric rise for the Wolves’ outside back.
