Hardaker pleads guilty to drink driving charge

Wigan full back Zak Hardaker pleaded guilty to drink driving at Leeds Magistrates Court and was banned from driving for 20 months .

Prosecutors told the court that Hardaker attempted to run away as he was approached by Police Officers , his defence lawyer telling the court this was just a “very amateurish attempt to avoid the attentions of the police”. It was also stated that a severe ban would have a devastating effect on his career .

Hardaker , named as Zak Dakin on court documents , told officers when arrested that he had consumed 2 gins and 6 pints of lager and was more than twice the drink drive limit when arrested just after midnight on 26th September . He was also fined £1810 .

The England star is currently serving a 14 month ban for testing positive for cocaine , signed for Wigan in May and had just started training with the club when he was arrested . He is expected to make his Warriors debut in February but the club are yet to comment on any further sanction .
