Halifax sign Bradford forward

Halifax have bolstered their forwards for next season with the signing of Bradford back rower Matt Garside.

The 28-year-old has plenty of Championship experience, having played over 200 games in spells with the Bulls, London, Sheffield, York and Gateshead.

He becomes ‘Fax’s fifth signing for 2020, following Tom Gilmore, Jodie Broughton, Keegan Hirst and Paul Brearley in making the move to The Shay.

“I was coming to the end of my contract at Bradford Bulls having been there for two years and met up with Simon Grix for a coffee one day,” said Garside. “I had a long chat with him and really bought into his plans for where he wants to take the club.

Simon Grix has made Matt Garside his fifth new signing for 2020.

“He mentioned a few signings that he wanted to make and I’m happy to be here for the future. I’d like to say I’m hard working, quite reliable. First and foremost, my aim is to try and earn the respect of my teammates and then the fans around me by just putting in the hard work week in and week out, try to get to the top of the league and to push for promotion.”

“You always know you’re in for a tough afternoon when you come here and play Halifax. They’re a tough group of lads who work hard for each other and I’m just really happy to be a part of that.”

‘Fax head coach Simon Grix added: “Matt is an intelligent and driven character who understands the requirements of his position. He is experienced and has high standards for himself. I feel he will prove a great addition to the team.”
