Halifax re-sign Wales international

Halifax have re-signed Welsh international forward Sion Jones on a three-year deal from 2020.

The 21-year-old is a product of the club’s reserve system, making 13 appearances and scoring one try since making his debut in 2018.

He has also received call-ups for Wales, so far earning one international cap.

He missed the entire 2019 season with a serious knee injury but has been rewarded for his hard work and commitment with a contract extension, which will see him remain with ‘Fax until the end of 2022.

“For me it was a no brainier. I feel like I’ve still got a lot to learn yet and I don’t think any other environment would be good for me at the moment with regards to my development, there is still a load of stuff I can pick up from the front rowers already here as well as Simon (Grix).

“Coming off the back of a really frustrating year last year with injury ruling me out for the entire year and some of this year, I can’t wait to get stuck in and repay the club for the faith they put into me.”

Halifax head coach Simon Grix added: “Sion has shown promise in recent years with his physical attributes and the punch he has provided us when called upon.

“Sion is on the road to recovery and we are looking forward to getting him back in the fold after having missed him this year.

“We will work hard to get him ready to go as soon as possible and look forward to the impact he can make in 2020.”
