Financially troubled Championship side Halifax Panthers are in serious danger with the date for the club’s winding up hearing with HMRC being reported as being Wednesday 11th of September.
That is in just two days’ time with the morning meeting set to possibly decide the future of the club.
Last week the cash-strapped club confirmed that they were in serious financial difficulties and they referenced that HMRC had refused an extension on the payment and that they had been issued an official “order to pay”, something they stated was “due early next week”.
Local news outlet, The Halifax Courier, have now reported that Wednesday is the deadline with the club subject to a winding up hearing that morning.
A second statement from Halifax Panthers, published on Friday evening revealed the extent of the debts with £80,000 owed as an “urgent debt”, some to HMRC and some to players and staff.
Meanwhile, they also stated that they would need in the region of £120,000 to £150,000 to complete the season.
Halifax Panthers ‘working around the clock’ to pay debt
Now though, a statement has been reported by The Halifax Courier detailing the urgency of the club so that they are able to pay by Wednesday morning.
That statement read: “The whole Panthers family are coming together to get past this financial challenge.
“We are working around the clock to get the HMRC bill paid before the deadline and remove the immediate threat to the club.
“The fans have been incredible and donations have been flowing in to the Independent Supporters Trust, providing a vital financial lifeline.
“We’ve still a long way to go in order to put the club back on a sustainable footing beyond Wednesday’s deadline and the directors continue to explore all avenues to stabilise the club.
“Fans wishing to donate can do so at https://www.faxtrust.org/product-category/donations/.”
Fax fans turned out in force at the weekend as the Panthers defeated bottom-place Dewsbury to distance themselves further from the relegation zone.
