Halifax Panthers have seen their High Court hearing adjourned until next month, but the club remain optimistic about the outcome. The Championship side’s board of directors outlined their confidence in a statement published on the club website.
The Panthers found themselves in a financial hole earlier this year with the club confirming they had urgent debts of £80,000, while a further £150,000 could be required to ensure Fax could operate sustainably for the remainder of 2024. However, the club released a statement last month to reassure fans regarding the issues the Panthers are facing, insisting that all outstanding liabilities to HMRC had been settled.
It was also suggested at the time that the club found themselves in a strong legal position leading up to their date at the High Court regarding a winding up order. That hearing has now been adjourned by a judge to January 29, with the Panthers stressing their confidence once more.
A statement released on the club website read: “High Court Adjourns Hearing in HMRC Case: Positive Progress for Halifax Panthers
“The Board of Directors would like to reassure supporters following the recent High Court hearing involving the club and HMRC. The judge has adjourned the case to 29th January 2025, recognising the merit of our stance.
“While some aspects of the matter remain confidential, Halifax Panthers remains in honour and is managing the situation professionally with our legal advisors and is confident of a positive outcome.”
The hearing will now take place just a few days after Halifax get their season up and running with a Challenge Cup second round tie as Kyle Eastmond’s side take on either Thatto Heath Crusaders or Orrell St James at The Shay.
Halifax are approaching their first season with Eastmond at the helm and have organised two friendlies in the build up to their Challenge Cup tie, with the club set to host Warrington Wolves before travelling to League One side Keighley Cougars. They get their Championship season underway with a trip to Sheffield Eagles on February 16.
