“Gutted” Andy Last explains what cost his side against Salford

Castleford Tigers interim Head Coach Andy Last was left “gutted” by his side’s defeat to Salford Red Devils tonight.

In a close battle, the Tigers came up short 14-6.

After the game, Last said on Sky Sports:

“It was really difficult to stomach. The boys are absolutely gutted in there as am I.

“There was a lot of effort put in there but effort doesn’t get you the two points.

“We need to be a little more clinical and try and come up with better decisions and put a bit more pressure on the opposition.

“We didn’t do that tonight and like I say the lads are disappointed.”

He also went on to explain the key spell in the game that cost his side as he identified a series of errors that sapped his side of energy:

“There was a period in the first half when we made four errors in five sets that robbed us of energy and later in the game we needed that energy. We needed to find the extra pass on some occasions and we couldn’t find the energy to do that.

“I think we can take some real positives defensively from that tonight.

“We need to do a bit more with the ball now.”

With two wins from six as Castleford boss, Last now faces an interview for the job.
