Part-time rugby league has to be one of the toughest working situations that rugby players will ever face.
Not only does it include training, playing on matchdays and keeping yourself in shape, it also requires going to work before or after it.
That can not only take its toll physically, but mentally it can place a great deal of stress on the person.
Former Castleford Tigers star Jesse Sene-Lefao recently spoke of the difference between a full-time environment and a part-time one following his move to Featherstone Rovers.
“It’s crazy, it spins my mind,” Sene-Lefao told the Talk Your Walk podcast.
“No disrespect at any level, but I noticed when I was in full-time training you got the odd person saying ‘oh my legs hurt’ and ‘it’s cold outside.’
“But then I get to Fev and we’ve got guys with work boots on all dirty and they are excited to put their rugby boots on and train.
“You rarely hear someone complain about training as they are still working towards their goal and they are grateful to be there.
“It’s the happy part of their day.”
And, now former Leigh Centurions fullback Gregg McNally has taken aim at new Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick following his comments on the lack of a full squad, a hectic Christmas and New Year schedule as well issues with COVID-19.
A post by a Manchester United fan page stated that: “The players are struggling to adjust to later training sessions and left in the dark at 5pm on Tuesday.”
McNally wasn’t happy, posting on his own story: “Imagine leaving work after it’s gone dark…oh then going to your second job after it!”
